The largest of the Dodocanese Islands, Rhodes has the best sunshine record of all the Greek Islands. The spectacular scenery, lush green forests and cool mountain springs make Rhodes an idyllic island for all.

Sheltered within the fortress walls, the island's capital Rhodes Town is a maze of cobbled streets and narrow alleyways, domes, minarets and shaded squares. A plethora of boutiques, open air cafe bars, quaint tavernas and international restaurants all vie for your euros and there are pavement portrait painters and jewellery makers if you wish to purchase a special momento of your holiday on the island.

From Mandraki harbour where the mighty Colossus once stood, you can take day trips to the Greek islands of Kos, Halki and Tilos, as well as Marmaris in Turkey.

Elsewhere on the island you will find plenty of places worth explring, the mountainous interior is dotted with tiny farming hamlets nestled among olive and citrus groves, ancient sites, the Acropolis at Lindos and the Colossus.

For sports enthusiasts there is an 18 hole golf course at Afandou and water sport centres all along the coastline.

Whatever your idea of a holiday, Rhodes will make it happen.
